hippie gas flame

on the new british gas advert, is the hippie flame Nigel Planer (Neil from the Young Ones) or just someone pretending to be him?

I don't know for certain, but I would assume it is him for the simple reason that his voice is his trade, so to speak. It would be unethical, maybe illegal, for a third party to make money - or save money - just using someone who sounds like him.

I remember another ad some time back which had a bit which sounded like Cliff Richard, but there was a disclaimer that the voice was an impersonation, not the real thing.

don't know about Nigel Planer but i remember an ad years ago for whisky, i think ? featuring an Orson Welles soundalike
