Those were the days when they used to tar their pigtails, Black Bart, when fighting, used to set his alight, to make himself more frightening to his foes.
Sorry Lonnie, you've got the wrong pirate. Blackbeard was the monstrous looking pirate who set his hair afire. Bartholomew Roberts was the Welsh dandy and possibly most successful of the pirates of yore. He coined the phrase, 'a short life and a merry one', or words to that effect.
