Classical violinist Vanessa Mae is skiing for Thailand at the Games.
Yes, really.
Her father is Thai, so she is eligible to represent Thailand. Countries which don't have a skier in the Top 500 in the world are allowed to enter a competitor if they meet a certain qualifying criteria ... like they own their own ski boots, or something.
So Vanessa is skiing for Thailand. She will be known by her father's surname. So, when you see Vanessa Vanakorn snow ploughing down the Alpine Downhill run ... that will be Vanessa Mae.
How jolly is that!
It's like the Calgary Jamaican bobsleigh team all over again.
Okay, I can't keep that up. Definitely one of the coolest dudes in the Games, James, from Sheffield is skiing in the Slopestyle event. That's where they ski over boxes, and down rails, like skate boarders do. You have to love James's hair.
James is good. Like, he's really, really good. He's a serious prospect for a medal.
This is the first time that Slopestyle has been an official Olympic event. Could we take the inaugural Gold?
Hey, mushers. Yes, that was a blow. I think Chemmy is a reasonable cert for selection. After all she's been through (see post for Day -18) I think they wouldn't dare not select her. There would be an uproar. It would be like not picking Jessica Ennis.
I hadn't seen these posts before today. Great fun and interesting, JJ.
I'm looking forward to the W Olympics, too. I agree with you about Chemmy not being funded. It is crazy and unfair.
It looks like we have a good chance in the skeleton again. A girl from Bath, can't remember her name right now.
