Days Out In Cotswolds

Staying at Shipston on Stour for a few days, any recommendations on places to visit (not shopping) for a few hours a day, would you recommend going anywhere by bus instead of driving? THanks all

Buses tend to be a bit hit and miss (often just 'miss') - I'd take the car personally.

Stretch your legs up here if able, the view is fabulous and you may get 'buzzed' by a jet or two - they love to scare the bejabbers out of tourists.

Broadway is the 'chocolate box' village - nice for a wander.

Great Tew has a fascinating history and is 'one of the prettiest villages in England'

buses in glos are rubbish.....and there is nowt there (i grew up in the cotswolds). you will be bored stiff by the time you leave. good luck anyways x

The villages of Naunton, and the Slaughters, are in my opinion the best. Though Broadway is ok, but a bit twee.

Winchcombe is very interesting for museums.

Gloucestershire buses are quite good, as a matter of fact. And it depends what you are after but for rural scenery and variety it offers both the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean.
Having said that I probably wouldn't recommend bussing it to Naunton ...

except for the service to stratford and/or banbury, the only buses to/from shipston are either school services, or one-day-a-week only services.

A lot - in fact nearly all - of the places mentioned are just not practical by bus from Shipston

It's got a decent service to Stratford on Avon, with a less decent service to Banbury, Chipping Norton or Moreton in Marsh

Moreton-in-Marsh has a very popular market every Tuesday. Stow-on-the-Wold has a lovely square with lots of shops and a set of stocks. Bourton-on-the-Water is very pretty with a river running through it and loads of things to do like the model railway exhibition, a car museum (with Brum in it), a model village of Bourton itself, with of course a model village in it, birdland and the dragonfly maze which I love. You have to follow the clues to find the whereabouts of the dragonfly. Oh, and Shipston is not in Gloucestershire, but in Warwickshire, so if you need to check bus timetables you may be looking in the wrong place, but to be honest I wouldn't bother with buses (my in-laws live in the Cotswolds, and the public transport is pretty poor).
