I Am Spending A Lot Or Our Money...........
on getting our home right for Mic. Mic and I have a joint bank account where our pensions are paid in. We also both have ISA's. I don't have a problem with paying, but as soon as Mic comes home we have to pay full care costs. The joint bank account cannot sustain these cost. I have been told that any money in my name will not be taken into account. So my problem is, how can I unlock Mic's ISA's. He is unable to hold a pen to sign it over to me but is capable to understand. Also going back to the current account can I claim half of it as mine even though a lot of it has been spent on Mic's problems.
In our working life I earned a lot more than Mic so my pension is a lot better than his. This also goes into our current account.
What a mess, and I really don't know where to start to sort it out.

I also suggest you contact Age UK. Just have a look at the home page of the website and you'll see what they can help with. From there you can search for more info or better still, find the local contacts and maybe someone can come to visit with lots more advice.

Disability Living Allowance can be claimed for those under 65, its non means tested and is the equivalent of AA.
If I were you Jeza, I would go to Citizens Advice as there may be other benefits you can claim. Its also worth looking at Enduring Power Of Attorney.

I would certain speak to your solicitor about POA, jeza, without delay, then you will have control over finances in his name. You need financial/legal advice about the money in your joint account, too.
