ajmmac & b0shb4ll - Device file update
4 Answers
I tried what you advised me to do, when I opened the SYSTEM.INI file in notepad, the pcaynwhere file was nowhere to be seen. I have no idea whats wrong with the bloody thing, but I think my father-in-law is going to get someone in to look at it.
Thanks again for all your advice.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.hi emma--this is all very odd since the original error message specifically said the pcanywhere file was referenced to in the system.ini file--probably best then if ur father-in-law gets someone on the spot to look at it--wish i could cos this is the sort of mystery i thrive on--there are many other things i would start to look at if i were on site but would be time consuming to start on them here--best if someone can look at it on-site--having said that one quick thing u can try is go to control panel and choose add/remove software--see if pcanywhere is in the list--if so then highlight it and click on remove--if not then no harm done--the problem u have often arises when someone deletes a progam by just dumping its folder in the recycle bin--this leaves remnants which can cause problems--editing the registry as we mentiond is another option as is re-installing windows which would produce a new registry and system.ini file--let me know how things go--i'm intrigued-- ajmmac AT gmail.com --arthur
