I have just been down to my local Homebase store to get a TV aerial extention lead as I need to move my TV, it was at this point that they baffle you with rocket science - Do you want a male to male or female to female or male to female, well how the hell do I know that, I just want a NORMAL aerial extention lead, why i nothing siple anymore? any ideas.

Just take your old one with you and tell them you want one the same but longer/shorter.

I wish it was that simple, I can't do that because the end that disapears into the wall is a fixture (it does not come out of a socket but direct from an outside aerial & thru the wall) so cannot be removed which is why I need to extend it.
the only way i can explain it is that a male plug has a point and a female plug has a hole!
An extension lead has a male at one end and a female at the other. The lead that connects your TV to the wall is male to male, so you can either buy a very long male to male and replace the old one or a shorter male to female and add it to the old one.

Thanks bhg481, that explains everything, the staff at Homebase must know this after me telling them that there was no wall end just a fixed lead that went straight into the TV, they seem to do it just to appear clever, well they just lost me customer for this and any future purchases.
Sound like you will need a male to male extension coaxial lead and female coupler to join it to your existing cable.
