... pick up the book nearest to you - turn to page 45 - the first sentence will supposedly reveal all about your current love life.

This is, of course, a load of old cock ...

... but mine says :

"But now, according to God's current earthly representatives, a judgement had to be made"

(On The Map - Simon Garfield)

Thanks for BA sunnyd, I was at work and it's a junior management book called 'Zapp the lightning of empowerment'. I don't really want to know what you think sounds like a balloon deflating...
From Page 45 of my December's issue of my well worn Flight Guide nearest and only book around... "To construct your own connection, based on your criteria, with Flight Guide's Itinerary Guide, use the minimum connection times and the major hub displayed on pages 52-56 to build the connection you desire..." (Pardon me, I'm taking a deep breath!)
ah, Clanad, even with a jet at your disposal, so many women, so little time...
Ah, jno... you haven't seen the latest crop of flight attendants (used to be called "Stews"... short for stewardess), have you? Either Bruce talking about his latest breakup or Aunt Geraldine showing pictures of her grandchildren...
they don't seem to advertise "I'm Geraldine, fly me" any more. There was always, as I recall, a substantial complement of Bruces.
Nearest book.....

The neglect of departures of density from a long term average state when coupled with acceleration of gravity in the buoyancy force.....

The most notable "affecting" scene in Mackay's narrative unfolds after the poignant passing of the hallucinated captain in Mrs Bremner's arms.

Preservation by shipwreck, Society for Nautical Reasearch

Are you sure about this Dave??
"Ollie never failed to act the clown with his over-the-top marching and saluting, which once almost had the pay table over when he slipped and skidded in his hobnailed boots"

No change there then - the only difference is when he was older, he was doing that because he was pissed

What Fresh Lunacy Is This - The authorized biography of Oliver Reed

Crikey, that's spooky.

The very nearest book is Chris Roberts' new autobiography of Kate Moss. There is just a single word on Page 45, and it is ...

"Obsession"

The book underneath that is a biography of Pocahontas, by Paula Gunn Allen, and the sentence is ...

"There were some waterfowl floating and they saw her plummeting toward them"
As one satirist of the time (1208) put it, 'the bishop was slack at 'scripture, sharp at counting his gold.'

1215 by Danziger.

What's changed in 800 years - not much, it seems

Starting p.44/45
'The interview was conducted in the spirit of mournfulness in which Eliot seemed to specialise.
It took place in the small, square room he used as an office.'

In other words, depressing?

When I opened the book it fell open at page 44/45.

(New York - Edward Rutherfurd)

DT yes Liberty is a ' Lake Wobegon Novel' not as good as the original though.
