Kids programme 80's - Silas

I used to watch a kids TV show during the school holidays in the mid 1980's. It was called Silas (I think it was foreign as it was dubbed) about a boy with a black horse, I think they ran away froma circus or something. It really sticks in my mind - does anyone else remember it ? It may have been on BBC 1.

I remember watching an episode of Silas which had a sword swallower on it. It made me feel sick and still gives me the heebeegeebees now when I think about it. Very weird kids show!!!
