It might be worth looking through this list of known triggers, to see if any are relevant: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Migraine/Pages/Causes.aspx

Strenuous exercise can certainly bring on headaches. What does the GP say, what medication is he on? Do they come at particular times, e.g. weekends rather than in the week?
Migraine is a symptom. There can be various causes. An intolerance of sugar can cause problems - he should try excluding it from his diet for a week to see if that improves matters. (Read those labels, some savoury processed foods contain high levels of sugar).

The most common cause, especially among computer users, is a minor neck injury. Try ice on the back of the neck (yes I know that's not where it hurts, humour me!). If that helps, see a chiropractor.

One would assume that he has had full blood and X-Ray analysis.

No, I have never heard of "taking sugar" produces headaches.

He is 59 years of age, so to what "strenuous exercise" are you referring?
Old_Jim....Migraine is a disease of which headache is a symptom.
I agree with sqad - as an ex-suffered, headache is only one manifestation of migraine. Dreadful condition for the sufferer!

I have heard of people who develop very bad headaches when eaten chocolate ,
I found artificial sweeteners gave me horrible frequent headaches.

Chocolate , cheese, excessive dairy produce bring mine on...
Perfume, bright light, smells like bleach, used to trigger mine.
My wife excluded cows milk and all related dairy products, including anything which may have milk in it like pastry, bread, cakes. read the information on the labels. Dont eat anything which may have milk/lactose like suaces on food in a restuarant.
