Stomach pain
12 Answers
My 7 year old son has woken up with pain in the lower left hand side of his stomach. He is finding it very painful to stand up. This is the first time he has complained of this. He is slightly hot, but has no other symptoms. I am waiting for a GP to call me back. Any ideas?

Get your son to (a) lie on his tummy on a hard surface, then rub his back, or (b) lie on his back and cycle his legs in the air. This works for both my sons. Peppermint tea or anything with aniseed is also good for trapped wind. You have done the right thing by consulting a doctor. Good luck!
Binky, I don't want to be alarmist but my son was cleared of appenicitis twice before he had to go into hospital to have it removed. He got a temperature and was sick for about three days and then got better. He wnet back to school and the same thing happened about two weeks later. On the third occasion, my wife took him to casualty where they admitted him for tests. They operated 8 hours later and found his appendix had burst and the only thing that stopped him dying was that the toxins had all been contained within a growth which his body had created called an Appendix Mass. Keep an eye on him and don't be afraid to go back to the doctor if it keeps on.
Thanks guys for your concern. I know that appendix doesn't always have the standard symptoms. I had mine out about six years ago and the pain was never on either side, but straight across the middle, rather like indigestion or heartburn. My son seems fine today, but I will keep an eye on him.
Thanks.
