Transfering Colour Slides To An Sd Card

I am in the process of transferring 3000 plus colour slides to an SD card using a Neostar Negative & slide to SD Scanner The problem I have is that I lose the order in which they have been scanned to the card when I try to save them to my computer and then back onto a Memory Stick

As these are to be given to my grown up daughters I would like to be able to do this so that they are in a chorographical order. What I would like to know is there any way of achieving this in an easy way bearing in mind I am not a computer wiz. kid.

I would be pleased to receive any suggestions.

Can I suggest that you number them from 0001 when you save to your computer.

The problem I have is that they are being put onto the computer in an haphazard way to re number them all and then have to re-sort into order would be very time consuming, I know because I have tried a few this way. I am looking for an easier way to do this.

Assuming you are creating a jpeg file for each slide scanned, then each file will have a date/time stamp on it. If you open the directory containing the files you can sort them into time order ie, the slide you scanned first will be at the top of the list. You can now click on the top file, CTRL+A to highlight all the files, right-click, choose rename and type eg file (1). The first file will be renamed file (1), the second file (2) etc. So now you have the files in the order in which you scanned them with consecutive names.
Is that what you are trying to do?

Thanks BHG481 the answer you gave I think will work but does directory have the same meaning as folder I'm not to sure how to get into the directory could you explain

A folder and a directory are different names for the same thing.

Assuming you're using windows, double clicking on the folder will generate a list of all the files in it. If you change the view to "details" the names of all the files will be listed, along with some details eg, size, date created. If you click on"date created"the files will be sorted into that order. If "date created" isn't an option you can do view > choose details and tick the "date created" box.
If you then proceed as I detailed before you should end up with all you files with names which reflect the order they were scanned.

To Lilacben to answer your query re Neostar Negative and slide to SD card Scanner this is a small scanner you can purchase for approx. £49 which will scan slides to an SD card it will also scan strips of film. It will scan those photographs in plastic mounts (some small problems) those in cardboard mounts and strips of un-mounted film. However I should point out the instruction book that comes with this leaves a lot to be desired, it is written by someone who does not understand the English language very well. But if you have photographs you need to transfer to a memory stick or SD card this would be of help, there are other types of scanners but I have no working knowledge of these.

I've been sending stuff off to Digiscan, since they've had occasional half-price offers on Amazon. The first 700 or so (from prints) came back okay so I've now sent off another 500 negatives. This is mainly because I've got lots and it takes too much time to do it all myself. They do slides as well.
