Although not close to a river I am threatened by flooding.

I was planning a couple of days away but have cancelled as I don't want to leave my home unattended.

The response I've received from a very old friend has really pee'd me off and I'm trying very hard not to respond with a whole hearted honest opinion to her comment about how I've inconvenienced her.

Please either offer calming words or preferably pithy responses to send her!

Call the local Jehovah's and tell them to get around to your friend's place as she(?) is ready to convert......

I'm trying to calm myself down and be reasonable, understand how I've inconvenienced her.

I'm not and do not anticipate being up to my knees in water but I'd rather be here just in case.

There are 100miles between us so my friends are probably oblivious to the extent of what is going on.
Do your friends not have a telly or the ability to understand the term 'flooding'?
Eccles, thinking about it, when people have been 'snappy' with me, they have usually had a bad day themselves, might be the case here with your friend perhaps? Just give it a couple of days, concentrate on what you need to do at home to get sorted and you never know, she might call up tomorrow apologise to you.
(It's not as if you promised to go round to visit 'come hell or high water')

:-)
Eccles, that's no kind of friend in my book
What Sloopy said. That's not a friend, it's someone who has their own interests at heart...I'd get your sandbags out, poor a large glass of red and watch a good film. Hope the floods don't bother you too much Eccles. xxx

I'm trying to be 'reasonable' and assume that they have missed every newspaper, TV news bulletin and Internet News ticker....... :-(

I accept your points peas, but you have no idea how their selfishness is making me want to swear!!!!

Maybe she thinks you are being overcautious and her attitude to risk is different to yours.
Sorry to hear of your predicament Eccles - I'll be available for sandbagging (of buildings and/or recalcitrant friends) by the middle of the week ...

... but meanwhile ...

Still quite warm and dry here in Barcelona ... another plate of Patatas Bravas and a Copa Cava por favor, Manuel ...

Dxx
sorry to hear this eccles. of course, you must stay at home and take all the care you can. you might not get flooded but maybe a neighbour whom you can help. suggest you tell your "friend" you are very sorry but filthy flood water takes precedence over anything she can offer. if she's not having her or nails done perhaps she could come and help you or elderly neighbours. after moving the furniture she could open a soup kitchen to make sure they have something warm to eat and drink.

hope it doesn't come to the worst. xx

maybe gness could visit her in your place. that will cheer her up. (when she leaves)
Eccles, I completely understand how mad you are.
I fell out with and have never again spoken to one of my friends a few years ago due to their selfish behaviour and blimey, was I mad on that day!

I hope all works out for the best.

So far so good.

I've been out with the drain rod thingies doing my best to make sure they are clear of any debris and the garage is dammed.

Monster rain this morning with very high winds, now calm but more rain expected this afternoon :-(
