I have quite a small, square bathroom which I am refurbishing shortly with a new suite, new tiles new everything. I would like to take out the radiator and put in one of those modern heated towel rail type radiators, but have been advised by a friend that they are useless at heating a room up. I thought that with the room being so small it would do the job but apparantly not - can you give me any of your experiences please? thank you

We have one in our bathroom - it works really well, just as well as the radiator that was there previously and even though it's small I can dry two towels on it as well.

It wasn't an expensive one, from B&Q . They do seem to vary greatly in price but I couldn't see what the difference was.

Make sure you get one plumbed in, otherwise it will cost a bomb in bills.
Get one it works just aswell as a radiator, watch were you swing your bum when you have had a shower though!
Ive got one, a cheapy too! It works fine, probably not as effective as a dedicated radiator but much prettier.
Warm towels are great! I think it depends on how big the room is and how soggy the towels are though.

Dont know how extensive your re-fit is but you could drop a high level fused spur in before tiling/decorating to give you the option of fitting a bathroom heater later on if you find you need a heat boost every now and then if necessary?
Our small cold bathroom had an electric towel rail (good quality one) for two years before I fitted a small radiator (on the central heating system) next to it. Now it's really warm - unless my wife has covered the radiator with towels! It all comes down to the surface area of the radiator - a panel will have much more than an array of chrome-plated pipes (unless it's a very big array).
Take spacehimps advice and get it plumbed in ! Remember if you are used to a degree of warmth in your bathroom you may not get the same out of a towel rail, a towel rail is not the same as a radiator.

I've got an electric towel rail. It works perfectly well at heating my bathroom and it use little more than a lightbulb in electricity.

Well. Ok. I've got a wall mounted fan heater for, 'brass monkey emergencies'. (Scottish winters)

We have plumbed in towel rails in both of our bathrooms and they are excellent. Not really expensive ones - probably about 100-150. Was advised not to go with the electric ones if they are the only heating for the room - and certainly found it most useful having it linked to the central heating as they warm up towels in the morning ready for getting out the shower.
I got an inexpensive one from B&Q which is plumbed into central heating system but also has electrical connection - great for summer when you dont want to put your heating on but want your towels dried1
