No, they may mean you are suffering from depression and should consult a doctor who will be able to help you.
It entirely depends on the context, who you are, what's happening around you - the depth of your thoughts, and so on. IMO
Not the thoughts, no. It's when you cross the line and start considering acting upon them.
I think of religion, I'm not religious.

Like Boxy says, "It entirely depends on the context"
No.

It all depends on what is going on in your life.
not necessarily.
>>>and should consult a doctor who will be able to help you.

I am afraid probably not.

Most GPs are not trained in mental health and don't now how to handle it.

I went to my local GP a few years ago with suicidal thoughts and I said I got depressed when I saw so many documentaries on TV about all the problems in the world.

His suggestion.

Watch more of them to get yourself used to it.

Worse than useless.
Not all GP's are like that. Some will refer you.
Mental disorders are not my "thing"

I agree with the post of VHG.

No, is the answer.

From what i remember one only commits suicide if one is depressed and only about 15% of depressed people commit suicide......successfully or otherwise.

So......about 85% of people with suicidal thoughts, don't commit suicide.

I am not an authority on the subject.

Thanks for all your answers!
I'm relieved to see you are still here.
I'm not sure whether the thread was about you or someone you know but if ever you're feeling low just come on AnswerBank- there's always someone here you can chat too
There can be other causes too, such as side effects of medication.

I'm very glad I read up on potential side effects of a pain medication I'm on. When I upped a dose (at the suggestion of a GP) I began having really weird thoughts, seeing ways to kill myself everywhere and feeling really detached from things. It wasn't a very pleasant experience, especially being home alone, and needless to say, I dropped the meds down some for a bit to up the dose more gradually.

I also think conditions like depression can trigger strange thoughts and at times overwhelming desperation, desolation etc... can lead to some dark thoughts.

Whoever your question relates to, someone having suicidal thoughts could speak to their GP or The Samaritans for support and how to get help and A&E units will usually have a mental health team (or via out of hours doctors) on call to help so there is someone there whenever you need one.

factor-fiction, that's very kind, thanks!
Apologies for my 'too/to' typo at the end- I hope tilly didn't spot it
Not necessarily, you can think about suicide without wanting to kill yourself, but if it's re occurring thoughts it's probably not very good, and quite worrying.
