not content with sinkholes, now exploding pavements, not the first according to the news.

Happened near to my house about 5 years ago. It blew a heavy cast iron manhole cover 30 feet into the air landing on a parked car. It made a very strange noise when it was blowing. The lights flickered but the electric stayed on.

apparently it happened in Pimlico last year, and there seems to be other incidences, not good.

what with torrential downpours, sinkholes, homes, businesses being flooded, one wonder what's the next disaster, a typhoon, hurricane betty,
a tsunami, seems a very weird time.

It was some kind of underground junction box that failed. Looking into the hole, it was bricked and dry. National Grid dug it out and put in a new 'part'.

Was not aware of this phenomenon until now.

There was a longer BBC report on this issue from last year, contains a couple of instances where there was an explosion on CCTV - really quite a frightening concept.

i had a look at other examples and there have been plenty and not just here in the capital, fancy being blown up by a pavement, whatever next.

it caught my eye, as it was mentioned on the news a little while ago, and seeing as how it's in the cally, i wondered if they had shut up the area,
