Can somebody settle an argument for me please..who has sold more records...Morrisey (as a solo artist) or the Smiths? im going with the Smiths......

im not a fan chief, i just got caught in a debate with some smiths fans who just wouldnt believe me when i said they still out sell mozza. Their back catalogue must be worth a blo*dy fortune....

theres no way morrissey has sold more records than the smiths.they had a massive number one album in '86 with the queen is dead for starters and many other big sellers.morrissey has had nowhere near as much success as they enjoyed.

Matt - you're talking about UK chart success, not record sales. Having one massive number one album doesn't relate to total sales. Morrissey now has a worldwide fan base and is unbelievably popular in some really weird places - places where the Smiths never really penetrated. Also given the fact that he's produced more solo stuff than in the band probably means that 'solo' is the right answer (even though IMHO the Smiths stuff is far superior!).
