My cat seems to have killed a mother mouse and keeps bringing the babys inside and chasing/ killing them. She brought one in tonight and injured it to the point where it couldn't hold it's head up. What should I do to stop her?

In all honesty here's very little you can do to stop her apart from keeping her in.

Some might suggest a bell on her collar, but as collars themselves can cause horrible injuries to cats, I wouldn't recommend that. Some say that feeding them less makes them hunt from hunger, but the opposite is possibly true - well fed cats will hunt for fun even more than they would for food.

No easy solution I'm afraid.

The problem with cats is, they are genetically programmed to 'torture' their prey before killing it. Mothers teach their kittens by cornering a mouse or similar, and chasing it, to show the kittens how it is done. This translates to the adult cat which hones its hunting skills by 'practicing' on a living animal.

It seems cruel, but it is instinctive, and you won't be able to train your cat out of this behavior. Hopefully this will be short-lived, as the babies won't survive long without their mother.

Thank you for your help. my mom got my cat a catnip mouse and she couldn't care less. my dog and brother on the other hand love it and chase it!

We have two cats and live in the countryside actually in the forest ,our cats bring lizards mice voles and adders they eat all of them except the snakes which they snap about 10cms from each end as though they dont know which end is the dangerous one . We cannot do anything about what they take but at least they eat them and don't just take them for no reason other than to play

yeah my oldest cat sandra is always bringing rats home there is nothing that can be done but you should be praising your can for it i mean many people think of mices and that as a pest!
