Feliway For Dogs
16 Answers
I'm not entirely sure how Feliway works but is there something similar for dogs?
I took the mutt to the vets yesterday and before we got into the treatment room he was a basket case, trembling, crying and try to get behind the chairs and out of the window, he's never been fond of the vet but this was ridiculous. I very nearly brought him back home but he has to have his booster jabs for the kennels when we go away.
To top it off, he had to have his anal glands drained...
So does anyone know if there is something I can give him before I take him again (hopefully not til next Feb)
Thanks for any replies :)

I use the Feliway spray with young Francis. I squirt it in his holdall and it seems to work a little.
He is still impossible to catch and ram into his carrier. He still howls all the way to the vet and quivers like a leaf when we are there (whereas his sister is quite ferocious at the vets), but when we get home he no longer feels the need to wander around the flat opening all the doors and howling his head off. This will result in him living for longer and not being throttled.
We are booked in for Friday for one of our regular visits.
Is there no way that you could try a psychological approach? Maybe trips to the vets to pick stuff up. Maybe even walk that way if it is near enough. I am sure that the vet will cooperate in any way. A nervous dog is a potential biter - unintentionally - so they should want to help.
I wish you well - I was lucky with my two hounds in that neither disliked the vet.

Thanks wolf, unfortunately the vets is about 8 miles away so an impromptu visit with the dog is not easy :(
He already has to wear a muzzle when in the vets as he'd definitely bite him, the vet is very good though and understands Yogi's fear, that's why I make the effort to take him there (plus he's the vet that visits the boarding kennels that Yogi has to go to when we're away). Yesterday was awful though, especially the gland business, poor dog didn't know what to do so he just growled his head off while I had him in a headlock and kissed his head.
God love em :)

Dunno what size dog you have got, have you tried a tight fitting jacket, you can use baby clothing ,ie baby grows with legs and arms cut out, my dog gets upset with wind, heavy rain, fireworks, I found that the jacket was the only thing that helped keep her calm, try a tight snug top at when she is upset, if it helps then buy her a proper jacket
This is the sort of thing, rocky https:/ /anxiet ywrap.c om/defa ult.asp x

They had to attempt to muzzle my little princess last visit, I didn't even know that you could get muzzles for cats.
Good luck if you go again. You can actually empty the anal glands yourself - if you so wished. :-)
