Can someone tell me the difference between permanent colour and semi-permanent colour, does it cover a few grey hairs?

Permanant is permanent and semi-permanent isn't! Semi-permanent colours usually last 8-12 washes (it will tell you on the box) and probably will cover a few grey hairs but they will soon start to show through.

You could try a semi-permanent if you are unsure of the colour and then get the permanent if you like it.

Semi permanent only covers the outer shaft of the hair whereas permanent goes through that into the inside of the hair itself. I have a few grey hairs which are covered by semi permanent- but not for very long- maybe a couple of weeks. Then they start to show again. I don't use permanent 'cos it is not that good for your hair, and if your grey hairs are at your parting, they will really show when they come through- there will be a line of colour and a line of grey! Semi seems to blend them in a bit more.

Best thing is to suck it and see.

I used to use a hair colour called Movida, in a strawberry blonde colour, which looked great when first applied, even looked highlighted, not one block colour. After a while the colour washed out but it had bleached my hair slightly and it never went back to the same colour. It dried it quite a lot. Now I go to a hairdresser, much more expensive but the colour is better.
