Job in estate agents
16 Answers
Well I've been offered two jobs. One I have accepted is part time in an estate agents doing admin. The people seem nice but are very driven and businesslike and I'm worried I won't fit in. You know how you act up a bit to get a job well I'm worried I've come across a certain way but when they see the real me they will wonder what they've got. I wasn't that different - I was just being extra polite, smiley and enthusiatic.

They can often not be polite when you are trying to get them to sell your house rather than buying one by the way.
It will be excellent experience for you I agree.

You are doing admin though and not actual estate agent work so if you're polite and friendly you should be fine.
Are you in a client facing role where you will be dealing with any clients? If so then unless you are trying to sell etc... then you just need to be friendly and polite.
Provided you get your work done and are a nice person to be around there shouldn't be a problem.

Prudie has made a brilliant point. I've worked in many law firms (and an estate agents doing admin actually, while I was at uni) and in a sales environment, all very businesslike and driven professions but we are all human underneath.
My lawyer me is not how I am with other people. I wouldn't speak to any of my former secretaries how I would my clients, it's a different relationship.
I find it wierd people have such a perception of, for example, lawyers. If only they could see behind the scenes sometimes haha :) We're just normal people.

Thanks prudie and Jenna and everyone for the reassurance. Yeah like you say its probably just their professionalism for work. I will just be doing admin so I don't have to be a super duper people person like you say. I did say I had an interest in possibly becoming a negotiater. Though to be honest I'm not sure if I have the right personality for the sales part. At least like I said to them I will get an insight into it doing admin.

Just concentrate on settling into your new role.
Listening and learning can be the best way, maybe adding little things at a time, Be interested and it will make you better at your job and help you pick up on what you need to progress if that's what you want.
I've always found it makes a big difference if people who have done admin for me are interested in what they are doing, willing to put themselves out a bit etc...
