Sorning A Vehicle

In 2010 Mr BM sorned his vehicle. Now I am absolutely SURE he sorned this vehicle - mainly because I nagged him and nagged him until it was done and then felt a huge sigh of relief because we wouldn't get fined.

He has just tried to tax said vehicle and the DVLA online system has said there is no record of it being SORNED. I am fairly sure he will have done it online. What would the DVLA have sent him on notification of a SORN so I know what I am looking for?

I find it unusual that they now say it wasnt SORNED because we haven't had a single letter in the last 4 years saying "Tax your car or else". Nor have he had the tax disc reminder V11.

I'm at a loss. Any advice?

I got an email when I SORNed a vehicle.
I know not related but the DVLA on-line apparently have no record of my driving license.

They do in real life...
I had a letter from DVLA confirming SORN
Until December 2013 you had to SORN a vehicle annually. After that date SORNs became indefinite. I'm not entirely sure but I would guess that in 2011 your vehicle became unSORNed and so it still is now.

Thank you all.

Oh dear Ellipsis. Thank you. I guess a big fine will be winging our way then...........
I sorn my car in Dec 2013. Do you know the cut off date?
You can check on-line if your vehicle is SORNed.
www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla

£100 fixed penalty if you are caught out.
As above but go to: https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalA
and follow "vehicle enquiry".
You would have had a letter every year saying "Tax it" if not sorned, or "Sorn it again" if it was sorned"
Don't you have to send in your log book when you SORN?
Hang on, you can't tax a sorned vehicle on line.

Extracted from an Email from 'DVLA Electronic Vehicle Licensing' when I sorned a vehicle about 3 years ago;

///Thank you for using DVLA Vehicle Licensing Online (www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk).
Your SORN declaration has been successful.///
No Boxy, you don't.

Are you sure OH sorned it, he may have scrapped it!!
If he's trying to tax it, has he had it MOT'd first?
