When you have set the first on and off times is there not an option to Save or Run?
Similarly, do you have the option for setting the On / Off times for different times on different days of the week?
My timer isn't an Auriol but I have different settings for MTWTF and Sa / Su and tedious though it might be I have to save all these individually.
Alternatively, could a possible workaround be to falsely set the clock time such that the timer comes on at the "right" time?
Even though I may have got some of my comments slightly wrong is may just be possible that I have triggered something that you have overlooked. Hope this helps.
