Buying A New Car.
I am considering buying a new car and I have found there are companies that negotiate with main dealers and obtain a considerable discount, which they pass on to the buyer - minus a commission, of course.
Has anyone bought a car this way ?
Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of ?
Cheers.

Thank you, as well Tony. You know your stuff . This particular model (1.2 DIG-T Turbo petrol) has only just come out so I can't buy one that's a year or two old even if I wanted to.
Now to the truth. I like cars but have struggled financially for many years, settling for old bangers that have sometimes cost me dearly. Now, having had a bit of luck and looked after my family, I am in a position to indulge myself with something I really like. Also, I am at the age where I think I deserve it before the lights go out.

No idea if they are still competative, but when i bought new a year or so ago broadspeed's prices were about where the dealers would drop to, some quickly, some took more time, i looked at a few cars a qashqai was one of them, as they were selling so well at the time so it took a while to drop the price, in the end we decided the boot wasnt big enough so didnt buy in the end. However i think nissan have more competition in the market now (ford/vaux etc).
If you have a px have an idea as to what they sell for and what you can get a new car for and work out the difference, some dealers will offer you a huge discount for a new car but expect you to give your px for next to nothing and some may give you a great px value but drop nothing from the new car, ALWAYS look at the amount of money you are going to have to pay. That may sound obvious but some people get carried away with the the discount they are getting on a new car, or the high px value they are getting for the're old car.
So far as using a company that negotiates on your behalf i'm very cynical of paying somebody £100's to do something you can do yourself.

Thanks for the good advice, Rizla.
I will probably buy through Drivethedeal, Highly recommended by Honest John, motoring editor of the Telegraph. They put together a number of orders from buyers and negotiate a deal with suppliers and pass on most of the discount, so there are no 'charges' as such. As far as I can see, they could save me about £1500 on the Qashqai.
Cheers.

On broadspeeds page depending on which one you're after they seem to say you can get between £1.5k and £2k off, http:// www.bro adspeed .com/ne w_cars/ Nissan/ Qashqai / as i said ALL the delears i looked at dropped to the broadspeed price. So maybe worth doing it yourself?, obviously buying from a local dealer it can be easier if you have any problems with the car.
If the local nissan dealer wont move on price then you can always walk away leaving you're number 'in case any offers come up' maybe after a few days/week pop back and see if they will drop the price, if that doesnt work put your cards on the table with a smart phone opened on the broadspeed/drive the difference webpage showing the price and say you WILL be buying a car from them if they cant match. If they cant/wont match then buy elsewhere.
Good luck
