I Have Been Told That I Am Nasty What Do You Think?

So my gate bell rings at 6.30am last Sunday. Not happy at being woken on the only day day I get to sleep after 7am I went down stairs to answer it. This man says he has a letter for me so I asked him to put it in the letter box to which he replied that I had to sign for it.
So back upstairs I go to get my slippers and gown on then out to the gate.
This young man then hands me a scrappy piece of paper which even tho I hadn't brought my glasses I knew was a begging letter. Now my ire is up and I snapped at him " are you begging?" To which he replied "yes I need a hand"
and then he popped out his glass eye.
So I told him it doesn't look like it's a hand he needs and if he doesn't bog off I will give him such a clap the other eye will pop out.
He took off like a rabbit and I doubt he will come back.

Had I been lured to my gate at sparrow fart o'clock on a Sunday by a charlatan, civility would have been a long way down my list of appropriate conduct.

However, had it told them foxtrot oscar I wouldn't have beaten myself up for the rest of the day; had I gone for Brinjals response I probably would have!

The beauty of an intercom system like yours (I have one too) is you can do the inquisition at a safe distance - that is what I would have done before going to the gate.

Of course if it is normal for your postal delivery to call on Sundays then you may have been caught off guard.

He wouldn't have got a great response from me at 6.30 am I can tell you, whilst I would have been wide awake I wouldn't have appreciated any beggar coming to my door, especially after being lied to! I think my hounds would have had a glass eye to chase around the garden.

Starting off with a lie is not the best way to win sympathy..All he had to sy was 'give us a dime bud' or whatever is appropriate in your neck of the woods.

I own a business out of town and my manager on occasion will send documents through with somebody who is coming into town so it is not unusual to have someone drop things off at odd times. He usually notifies me in advance but sometimes the phone networks are down, this is Africa remember, so it was possible it could have been genuine.
