Outlook Express bars attachments
3 Answers
I have found attachments being inaccessible on messages received into Outlook Express and now realise that it is OE itself that appears to be blocking them. I see that is says it "removed access to unsafe attachment" even when it is something I send myself and I know fine it is safe (Norton Anti-Virus protection). How can a re-educate OE (I would like to kick it in the backside while I'm at it if that were possible) ?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Open outlook express and go to tools, then options then security and you will see a tick at do not allow attachments to be opened etc, remove this tick and you will be able to open or download any attachments, make sure it is safe first by scanning it as this is how virus's and spyware and the like are passed on.
Rather than want to kick OE in the backside you should thank it for reducing the spread of viruses.
Before this option was set on anybody could open any attachment.
Many innocent looking e-mails had attachments that said they were pictures (Britany nude etc) but were actually EXE files (programs) or SCR files (scripts) that could do all sorts of things to your computer.
If any EXE or SCR file arrives as an OE attachment be VERY wary of running it.
Thanks, having posted the question it actually occurred to me to go tools-options and untick the box before the replies came in. Reinstallation of the identity/account must have left this switched on without me realising it. I am very wary of viruses etc. and everything is scanned automatically, certainly incoming - I have (touch wood) operated this way trouble free for many years without OE being the watchdog. Thanks for the responses.
