Can anyone recommend a good source of online GCSE courses - and preferably at a reasonable price ................ just looking to broaden knowledge in psychology or history - not especially looking at taking exams necessarily.

I can't recommend the Open University highly enough.

Are they not expensive though Mojo-Jo-Jo?
I would recommend them too. I did a Social Sciences degree, with psychology courses when i was home with small babies. They do have funding for people on certain benefits, or by means testing.
The Open University is expensive now. The courses used to be subsidised by the government, but not any more. A typical 30 point course costs about £1250, and a 15 point costs about £640. It is still good, though.
Ah, really? It was about £350 for 60 credits when i did it.
The link I gave you is to the free courses.
Google Open University free course. They offer 600 very respectable ones
you said the exam part wasn't important at this stage.
I can't give you a better free introduction into the structure of learning again before you hand over your money.
Although, not GCSEs, you can find free courses here.

If you aren't after just accredited courses, try the nearest WEA classes to you:

Very good for broadening knowledge and linking up with like-minded people.
