Never! All cats should always be made welcome. That's how I gained my beloved Patches, although I have to admit that I wasn't planning on getting her 4 beautiful kittens, who are now 20 days old, when I welcomed her into my home! (Oh well, it's a 5 cat household from now on here!)

Agree Buenchico, starting to feed strays is how I've acquired most of my cats in the past. Loved each and every one of them.

Chris ~ I trust Patches has been able to give herself a good clean and is now smelling as she should. The kittens will be turning into turbo-charged demons soon.

sandy ~ my two are addicted to a treat called Dreamies (not cheap) it has been likened to Cat Cocaine Maybe even more visitors will turn up at meal times.

I don't really mind the furry visitors but my dog does. When Missy hears them she goes barking mad.

Patches is a lot cleaner now thank you. Her tummy still isn't quite right though; I daren't give her kitten food (which is what the vet says she should be eating) as it would go straight through her. However she got through a can and a half of regular cat food (and a bit of the dried stuff) yesterday, so I'm not particularly worried about her.

The kittens seem fine but they've not reached the 'turbo-charged' stage yet. (They're not 3 weeks old until tomorrow). They keep thinking about leaving the cat bed for a look around but they're still not confident enough (or steady enough on their feet) to do so. If they make a move to leave 'base camp' their mum gently puts a paw on their back to tell them not to.

sandy - the bird/cat hybrid is a nice looking moggie. It reminds me of the time I tried to wash my bullmastiff cross in a small shower cubicle once - he didn't quite fit. I washed him in instalments.

Chris - she sounds like a good mother. As long as there is food going into her she is getting some nutrition. Frankie and Merlin were born to a stray/feral mother and they turned out okay. ( Apart from Frankie's asthma and Merlin's terminal stupidity and her vicious streak.)

sandy - what type of hound do you have? Terriers seem to be pretty intolerant when it comes to cats.

It's a rescued Cairn terrier and seems very territorial. It doesn't dislike all cats. It's made friends with one that lives in the next street.

They're neither of them strays. They live just a couple of doors away but for some reason like to use my garden as a toilet.

We seem to specialise in stray cats too - we thought maybe they marked the gate post like the old tramps used to do. We also took in a stray who produced kittens, we were unable to rehome them and are now a five cat family.....plus the three that 'just visit'. I've lost count of the number of cats we've taken in in the last 25 years. Sadly, most have not been with us long as they've had a variety of health problems. I can't begin to work out how much they've cost us - I think we must be the vets favourite customers! I just wish people would have their cats neutered, we're overrun with stray entire toms - and we haven't got room for any more.

Sandy - it looks like you are feeding them on sliced carrots (in bowl). Is that why cats can see really well in the dark?

My little boy (Frankie, my avatar) can eat his bodyweight in Roast Beef ~ quite a feat. He is on steroids and gets the munchies - added to the fact that he is a greedy pig it results in him having a big appetite. One day, I fear, he may eat his sister. :-)

nothing but the best for the furry visitors. It's skinless+ boneless salmon from M&S.

Sandy - I have reduced my diet of smoked salmon considerably after seeing the price. Neither monster likes it - which is good because the weren't getting any.


I love dogs but cats are 'fun'.

The only advantage of having a cat rather than a dog is that the cat doesn't want regular walks in all weathers.
