We're getting chickens in a couple of weeks. Coop etc are all sorted but I don't know what size feeder and drinker to get for 4 x medium sized chickens.
They'll be kept on grass in a large enclosure and will be moved around (if that makes a difference).
Can anyone advise please and thank you
It all depends what you intend to feed, pellets or mash. A two gallon conefeeder should do. After experimenting, only put in as much as will be consumed in one week. Manufactured feed goes off pretty quick if it gets damp.
Don't forget an additional one handful of wheat per 2 chooks per day and continual access to oyster grit to keep them healthy. Food scraps will be eagerly consumed. Worms and other insects will be pounced upon and even a mouse is not safe in a chook pen.
like Wildwood says, as for the wheat, not essential but a bit chucked around the run will give them something to scratch around for and keep them amused, as with the oyster shell, all good feeds contain all this but a small feeder with oyster shell is a good idea. We feed ours kitchen scraps but yes it is illegal.
And don't forget to protect them against foxes, shut them in at night and chickens drink a surprising amount of water, they must always have plenty available.
