Had nasty cold. ...now been up all night with ear ache...stuff coming out now...waiting for surgery to open..taken ibuprofen , should I do anything else ?

No, you are seeing you GP this morning, so on the meantime your suggestion of Ibuprofen is fine.
Take a large enough dose.
I have told,you that you need that ear looking at by an ENT surgeon.
