That a washing machine could bring so much happiness.
I've been stressed since Sunday. I have paid nearly as much for plumbers as I have for the machine itself. I have asked for the money back from the incompetent installers. I am also thinking of sending them the plumbers bill. Does any one know if I can do this. Or will they just fob me off. In reality I'm just pleased that everything is now up and running.

How on earth did people in my situation manage before washing machine?

No, you must complain and complain some more. Getting the money back is excellent but the sense of satisfaction will be amazing!

I would send the bill with a covering letter to the MD of Currys and by recorded delivery. keeping a copy for yourself, you can but try, also The crusader in the Daily Express will sometimes help. If I can find the e mail address will post it in here for you, but go to the very top don't bother with the middle man they cannot make decisions. No harm in trying. Next time try AO company for appliances I found them very good and true to their promises redelivery & timings and they had a spare hose on board no extra charge.
