Equifax - A Rant

It seems that I don't exist - after many years at my current address Equifax have managed to lose my Electoral Roll record - you try buying stuff online if your identity can't be verified.

They are the most astonishingly complacent and unhelpful company I have ever dealt with (worse even than Sky and Scottish Power, which takes some doing).

It seems that **I** now have to do all the work to get myself reinstated on their database - my Local Authority have confirmed that I'm on the Roll, but I have to beg them to issue an 'update' so that Equifax can be appeased.

Equifax are the great gods who rule our lives and so I have no choice but to jump through their hoops - who appointed these ***, who controls them - they appear to place themselves above and beyond any national laws.

These credit agencies do seem to be a law unto themselves, and they accept without question reports from large corporations. Experian have quite happily accepted a totally false report on a debt from British Gas, staining my excellent record.

Take your pick, dave, but either is a right mare to deal with, IMO. But in the meantime, sir, can you prove who you claim to be as either 1/2 has occured. :+)

Try taking out a mobile contract, ummmm - computer says 'no chance'.

Try getting something expensive/electronic delivered from a company you've not dealt with before - computer says 'you must be kidding'

Even with a valid credit card (which I have) companies are (rightly) dubious about new customers with unverified addresses for certain transactions.

i currently hate experian, despite paying RM £100k + a month, experian say we dont exist... so RM take their word as law i can't get the company account set up properly...

Alot of people would give good money NOT to be an object of Ecperian's interest.

To my utter amazement, threatening them with the Information Commissioner seems to have prompted some remedial action - I seem to be a real person again ... :+)
