In 2012, Fernando Alonso would have beaten Sebastian Vettel; in 2008, Felipe Massa would have denied Lewis Hamilton; and in 2003 Kimi Raikkonen would have edged out Michael Schumacher.

I personally think it's a farce. Why SHOULD the last race be worth double points? There'd be holy hell to pay if the Premier League introduced such a rule for the last game of the season. There are those who believe that it has been done because Vettell has had the title sewn up before the final race in previous seasons. The belief being that such dominance will not be possible under the new points system.
