Trying For A Baby
4 Answers
Hi I'm 43 and been trying unsuccessfully for 2 and a half years to become pregnant. I'm healthy not over weight and my youngest is 11. What's the likelihood of succeeding?

I read somewhere (sorry, can't remember where) that the chances of becoming pregnant in your 40s are not as low as has been published and assumed. I know that in the link ChillDoubt posted, it said there is a 5% chance in each unprotected menstrual cycle for a woman in her 40s, but it doesn't mention the equivalent figure for women in their 20s. I believe (from what I read) that it's not as much as you might think.
As you have been trying for 2 and a half years, perhaps it's time to see your GP if you really want another child.

I would go to your GP if you haven't already. A simple blood test can tell a lot such as if you are ovulating, whether you have a lot of eggs left, hormone levels etc. your body has probably changed a lot in 11 years. If the GP finds anything wrong he can refer you to a gynaecologist for specialist help. I don't know if your current partner is the father of your other children, but he should be tested too. I started this process after 18 months of trying. We got there in the end. Good luck.
