I've had my helix pierced for about 6 months and I put a surgical steel segment ring in it twice but I had to take it out because it kept going crusty and got a lump. After I took it out and put a stud in it's fine. Would titanium work better as it's less of an irritant or should I get someone to put the ring in professionally as I had great difficulty in closing it? Please help!

As nobody has yet answered- often pure metals are best for avoiding irritation- silver and gold. Clean and disinfect the metal and your ear scrupulously. If you've managed to get the piercing back in, just keep turning it to keep the hole open.
