For the second time the chancellor announced that he is cutting a penny from beer duty and once again the majority of pubs around here have chosen to ignore it by keeping prices the same, given the fact the last time he increased the duty by a penny most pubs put 10p on a pint so are the regular drinkers getting a raw deal from our pubs?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The Chancellor is giving nothing away at all (as usual) - the average price of a pint has gone up by more than 10p in the last year, which means that the VAT per pint has gone up by around 2p - so cutting a penny off the duty is hardly a give-away.
Pubs merely charge what the market will bear - beer drinkers will vote with their feet (assuming their legs still work) if they feel they are being gouged ...

This decrease of 1p Pint will discourage the Pubcos and unscrupulous Landlords from adding 10p to a Pint which they would normally do if Beer Duty was increased.
Thousands of CAMRA Members such as myself have campaigned for ages to halt the escalation of Beer Duty.
Greg Mulholland, Chair of the Parliamentary Save the Pub Group,along with other MP's have also put pressure on the Chancellor to stop the Yearly hike in Beer Duty.
The monopoly of Pubcos such as Punch Taverns and Enterprise Inns etc, has damaged the Pub Trade badly.Licensees have been badly treated, Pubs closing with Staff losing their jobs.
Many good Pubs are making a comeback thanks to the Micro Breweries, long may it continue
