Perhaps if it was run correctly it would not have been privatised, but as with most public sector bodies it was not.

Jobs need to go, I dont see the problem with that if it means the company can become more competitive.

Would you rather tax payers just paid up to keep a struggling company going?
And I forgot to add - in the early 1980s similar harbingers of doom were suggesting that if BT should be privatised then phones would become an expensive luxury, the workforce would be decimated and levels of service would decline. Were they right?
"Would you rather tax payers just paid up to keep a struggling company going? " - Yes YMB, the likes of Mikey and co would! They've never been able to grasp that jobs have a function they are not created just so the person concerned has a job.
If they cannot train postmen (and women) to do a simple thing like ringing the doorbell when necessary then nobody deserves more money.
