We have recently acquired a big oriental looking urn with lid through the death of a relative but know nothing about it other than it's been around for years and we once heard it was a ginger jar, can anyone shed any light on this. It's brown in colour and possibly hand painted with birds etc.

(Auctioneers obviously hope that you'll sell through them but the vast majority will spare you some time anyway. I once got to see one of the experts from the Antiques Roadshow, for a detailed appraisal of some items I had, simply by walking into Bonham's Auction Rooms in London. No queuing, no fee, no obligation and an expert opinion instantly).
However if you're hoping for someone on here to give you some information you'll need to provide a photo. You can upload a picture to this site

copy the last link offered to you and then paste it here. If it's not clear from your photo, please tell us the size as well. (If there are any marks on the base, please provide a second photo as well, so that we can see them).
