It's not been a good year for garden birds in my area. With it being mild, there's been plenty of natural food to be had in the countryside. In comparison, last year was excellent...I even got waxwings in the front garden:-)

The Pigeons discovered mine and it fell off and broke.

Yes, rusty, we also seem to be getting a good variety of garden birds this year, much better than last year. Today I have seen a butterfly, a bumble bee and a ladybird ( can't remember seeing any ladybirds last year.

I bought one a fortnight ago and have yet to see a bird anywhere near it.....

I wonder if as the bird flies towards the perch on the feeder it sees another bird which spooks it and it flies off......not realising that the other bird was in fact its own reflection.

Maybe not even its refection but just the movement of a reflection may be triggering it that something is there (that isn't) so they are scared off.
