I was inserting the oil in the wrong place.

Please listen to ummmm! Unless you have access to some pointless "electric" cigarette gadget, there is no tar in electric cigaretttes. That's their whole point!
They are available with menthol or various pure nicotine levels. These are packed in the filter, diposable when it's empty. The "cigarette", white part, goes on "forever" but needs regular charging.r
Nicotine is harmless, in fact it is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent
(a good thing for many).
So you only inhale menthol-vapour or nicotine plus steam.
The only doubt about their safety is the possibilty that the other inhalant MAY be ethylene glycol which is a bad thing. This is currently being investigated in large scientific trials in the States and Europe.
WHAT ARE THESE ODD "TAR"-CONTAINING THINGS you are buying (Brand Name Please) and WHERE FROM? If you are right - stop using them as they could be more dangerous than ordinary cigs.
Try E-lites from Morrison's or internet. Their charger is simple -just a mains plug with screw-hole for the "cigarette" part. Silly USB-chargers and USB/mains adaptors are also available with them if you ae so-inclined.
