For those that have successfully quit in the past...
What do you do when it's not so much as wanting one, a craving, but more, it's what you're used to doing?
What I mean is, ive just had a brew and something to eat and it's this time i normally light a fag. I don't particularly want one for the taste, it's just because it's what i normally do, it's what I want to do- does that make sense?
Incidently, i've not had a smoke since 9 last night.

It might be too late for you Boo, and not work so well with roll-ups, but another tip I heard was to put a collection of butts and a little water in a jam jar and whenever you are tempted, take the lid off and inhale. It's rank as you would imagine and is supposed to stop any craving. Mind you, I haven't tried it myself and am still somking - will give up soon !
Boo I gave up on 60 a day nearly 20 years ago and I used chewing gum not nicotine but Wrigkeys or whatever. Its not particularly nice but I found it helped especialy at work and in the pub.
I really don't think theres any substitute for will power remember first week or so is worse it gets better, but as netbiza says, no matter how long you give up, there are still times you want to smoke.
GOOD LUCK

Well a quick update....
I've done my first shift at work without smoking. I usually ejoy a smoke every hour or so, just to break up the monotomy of the tills and to get away from the customers for a blessed 2 minutes. Today I pottered off for a litte wander round the shop floor whenever it was getting to me, so was bearable- just.
The worst part was after lunch, when I usually went for a smoke, i sat on my hands and read the paper for another 2 minutes instead, and selling cigs to customers, i just wanted to smack them- but luckily for me (and them) I didn't.

what stopped me smoking was fear,I reached a point when I could only walk about 20 yards without pain in the one leg, I was diagnosed with having a furred up artery & had to go in hospital & have it cleared out by having a wire pushed down the artery.I was warned that if I continued to smoke there was a chance I would have to have a leg or legs amputated.I stopped smoking immediately that was 19 years ago & I am happy to say I have not smoked since.Ron.
Thanks beattie ,means alot. I've just discovered the ashtray from the bedroom (I know, i know!) and hurled it in the bin, contents and all, but I did have a sneaky sniff first, lol.
Oh dear Rin, yes that'd put me off them too, luckily (touch wood) I've not had a health scare regarding smoking. Glad you managed to give up successfuly, and more imprtantly, you've kept your pins!
