I've got a lot of rolls of camera film in those little plastic tubes. I can't tell which ones have been used and which ones are new. They have all been opened now,and the ones that were new, have lost their ''new'' smell. How can I tell which are new, and which ones have been used? Help!
If it's 35mm film, the unused ones generally have a bit of film sticking out of the canister - when the film is rewound prior to removal from the camera, this is rewound into the canister body.
I also have 15 films waiting to be developed & often get them muddled up with unused ones too. If it's an APS camera, look at the end of the film reel, you will see little shapes marked: 1 - 2 - 3 & 4. If the No. 3 shows a white cross (+), then that film is used. You may need a magnifying glass like me to see though. Good luck!
LeMarchand is right - unfortunetly many auto-rewind cameras stop rewinding as soon as the film tension drops - so they may still leave a small length of film protruding from the canister - however you would expect it to be a consistannt length so you may be able to make an educated guess.
