Gibberish downloads

On Firefox when I open a download I've saved to disk all I get are computer symbols -- the thing I want just won't open so I can use it. Any help appreciated --thanks.

Was it a doc file? You may need a specific word processor such as microsoft word to read it

I find that this normally happens when I rename the file prior to downloading it.

Right click on it. Select Open With to bring up another dialog box. Select the program the file should normally work on. Should open normally.

i had a simlar problem i just deleted anything to do with hotmail then it was ok hope this helps
