Is it usual to have yours ears syringed before attending a hearing test.

Yes I obviously had no wax.
Agreed, Boxie. It's normally the nurse that carries out syringing, and our Health Centre nurses have all been trained to do it, and are perfectly capable. But for some reason, (apart from the excuse given), our local doctors don't want to refer us to the nurse unless we demand it.

Ok thank you all although still not clear how I am supposed to know if I have "gunky" ears or not.
I have had many hearing tests ( works medicals ) and have never had my ears syringed first.
I think that we are all getting rather confused here.
Hearing tests are done basically for two reasons:

Firstly as routine screening....works etc......no syringing necessary.
Secondly for diagnostic reasons after medical consultation.....here , syringing is necessary of wax is present.
