Do these capsules actually benefit the body, or is it just another health scam?

yes - according to this bbc news article :
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/1817974.stm
I take Cod Liver Oil and Glucosomine but now the BBC recomend it I might be wasting my money. No seriously the multivitamin thing I believe is a waste of time if you have a reasonably balanced diet. Each of us is slightly different(Yes you are unique),excess vitamens are discarded by the body as waste(not sure whether tapeworms like them) but vitamins taken to great excess are dangerous. Don't panic. Just like salt, water, carbohydrates, proteins etc. we need this stuff to have a healthy life, but in moderation.
Sorry archbishop, my 'yes' was a bit ambigious, the BBC link basically says that scientists have proven that cod-liver oil is benifical to the joints. Being a vegetarian who tries to avoid diary products - I do take vitamins mainly to supplement B12. I was also quite surprised to learn at blood donars how long it takes to replace the vitamins you lose.
