The window on the driver's side has suddenly stopped to wind down automatically.....is it a case for a garagist or can I successfully deal with it ?...I can live with the small annoyance if it proves to be a major blow to my wallet....any reply gratefully received.

It's probably best to start with the fuse box and go from there. Disconnect the battery before you locate it. It could be the switch itself, or it could be a problem with the winder motor, in which case I'd probably take it to someone.
If it's the winder motor or part of the mechanism, then it'll mean taking off the door card and supporting the glass, in case it falls off the mechanism and breaks - then you will have a cash headache.
Hopefully someone far more qualified will give some advice, but you've got some idea of what you're up against.

thank you Stephen-G for your quick reply. Actually, I had already checked the fuse box....alas, no success there....As the car is quite old ( 55 numberplate ), I think that I shall live with the annoyance.....the car is completely reliable and has, up to now, sailed happily through its MOTs....however, its value is less than £ 1500....so....no trip to the garage....I am curious and might have a look at the website you mention....again, many thanks
