/// The spokesman rejected suggestions that Mrs Miller's ministerial position was more secure because she was a woman - amid criticisms of a lack of female MPs in the upper tiers of Mr Cameron's government. ///
It would seem that she is not the only female in his Government that he is having trouble with.

/// I think you've argued against your own proposition there AOG. Miller's position is safe because she's a woman but Warsi's for the chop even tho she's a woman? ///
Yes but time will tell, will he dare sack her?
*** Warsi did not receive the same ‘right royal bollocking’ from the Prime Minister that Michael Gove did for his FT interview, even though Warsi’s intervention was arguably more deliberate. But I hear the reason she wasn’t scolded by the PM was that he may just dispense with her at the reshuffle, if he dares. He’ll have to have nerves of steel to do so, though, as he and his allies are acutely aware of the trouble she could cause if she does leave the government. ***

If the Press could be relied on to behave responsibly, then regulation wouldn't be needed. But they have shown a distinct inability to behave with any dignity whatsoever, as the Leveson Enquiry plainly showed. Remember Millie Dowler's pjone hacking ? There is a serious court case on at the moment concerning News Internationals employees. I am a libertarian at heart but the Press Barons should be made accountable, and voluntary regulation has been shown in the past to as effective as a chocolate teapot.
Nothing in this current Maria Miller case would seem to be effected by any regulation in the future. We have the Telegraph to thank for exposing the expenses scandals a few years ago, and again, if sensible press regulation was in place, the paper would still be able to expose future scandals.

hacking millie dowlers phone-illegal
cases going on at the moment-possible illegal behaviour
nothing to do with regulation
but what is to do with regulation is no10 making veiled threats to suppress this public interest story.
can you imagine tone, gordon and the sheet-metal worker if they'd ever got their greasy fingers on the press.

Not sure why you are trying but failing to make this a party-political issue Svejk ? The recommendations of the Leveson Enquiry had wide spread cross-party support. I come back to my point.....voluntary regulation by the Press Complaints Commission has proven to be entirely useless. Giving the Press the power to regulate itself is akin to putting Herod in charge child welfare issues.

Important paragraph from the above link ::
"The PCC received extensive criticism for its lack of action in the News of the World phone hacking affair, including from MPs and Prime Minister David Cameron, who called for it to be replaced with a new system in July 2011. The Leveson Inquiry was set up and reported in November 2012 but there since has been deadlock over its proposals for self-regulation despite the establishment of a Royal Charter on self-regulation of the press "

From the Guardian..."Support for the culture secretary, Maria Miller, appeared to be ebbing away as Tory MPs said David Cameron should sack or demote her in a likely summer reshuffle over her handling of a dispute over parliamentary expenses.
Senior members of the 1922 committee of Tory backbenchers, who have the ear of the prime minister, said they expected Miller to be removed from her post to end a barrage of criticism from Conservative-supporting newspapers in the runup to next year's general election."
