Actually, I can't answer that - Smallville is not a representation of the Superman I knew and loved when growing up, in that they seem to be rewriting it as they go. I mean, where did Chloe fit in - nowhere? And why meet Lois now instead of in Metropolis - she is supposed to be the experienced reporter, yet she shows no interest in the job. Like I said, they seem to be rewriting it as they go - Gotta be honest, I tend to record it on DVD and watch it on fast forward now, playing only when I see a bit I want to watch.
I like smallville, but that could be because I have a crush on Lex Luther!. Pete (little bloke who knew all) moved away with his family, deciding factor was that he was finding it too hard keeping Clarkes secret.
I know they have changed things which is probably frustrating for die hard fans, but there is an 'extra' on one of the dvd's about Lois through the ages, and the story has always been changed, the first tv series when it was in black and white, was changed a lot from the cartoons, the films changed from the tv series, etc etc.
I think overall it's a very clever adaptation, and I think Tom Welling as Clarke is excellent casting. You also see on the dvd that a significant part of it is ad-libed by a very able cast.
Maybe I've given this too much thought! :o)
