Most of the actors/actresses of that era were also superb singers and dancers.
many were, Judy Garland, my all time favourite, could sing, act, dance,
Fred the same, even lovely Clark Gable was a dancer at one point in his career...
Fred Astaire that is. As were Shirley Temple, Donald O'Connor,
Gene Kelley, Rita Hayworth, big stars of yesteryear, the golden age of Hollywood
James Cagney was quite the hoofer

Maybe so but she LOOKS like she'd eat him alive
true, they do seem rather an odd match,
She looks like she'd eat him for Breakfast

Before during and after... part of her attraction, no doubt.
she was the starlet, he the big star and it was he who according to the biography, introduced her to the delights of sex.
And possibly Frank Sinatra - it was reported at the time, even though they were divorced, Frank took care of all Ava Gardners medical fees and made sure she was well looked after.
