Dog's Behaviour
7 Answers
My dog seems to be behaving a bit strange this morning (he's driving me round the twist), he got OH up at 6 o'clock this morning to go in the garden where he duly had a sniff and came back in, at 7.15 he started to demand his morning walk, I got up then and he carried on and on until he went to my son's room and started howling at his door to get him up. He's usually a lot more patient.
Anyway, we took him for his usual walk and now we're back he just keeps standing in front of me as if he wants to go for another walk.
He's perky, his tail is up, his nose is wet and he doesn't seem to be ill though he is panting a bit. He has food and water and the back door is open for him to wander in and out.
He's obviously trying to tell me something but I haven't a clue what.
I'm wondering if there's a bitch on heat close by, would he be able to smell it even if the doors and windows are closed as they were at 6am this morning?

The other possibility is that you have got something prowling around the house. My dogs have been quite restless the last few days and nights, hunting round the garden. I think its because its spring and warming up and the denizens of the garden are becoming more active. I hear rustling and movement in the garden and the dogs enjoy lovely hunting sprees after dark.
My last dog went senile but it all started after he hit about twelve.
I think that we tend to forget that dogs, cats and other pests/pets 'see' the world differently from us. They hear things and smell things that we are totally oblivious to.
Does he still have his man-bits? Or has he been denutted?

Dogs can smell a bitch in heat literally miles away, and closed doors and windows will not keep out that scent.
More likely though is that he is advising you as pack leader, and your son as pack member that there are movments and smells of spring about, and having done that, he will settle down again.
